Labrador Retrievers are most known for their short double coat, a soft undercoat that keeps them warm and a hard outer coat that repels water. Labradors Retrievers have an otter type tail, thick at the base and tapers toward the end. Labrador Retrievers have wide heads with ears that hang about half-way down between tip of head and bottom of jaw. Labrador Retrievers are not only a wonderful family pet with great temperaments but they also are great for hunting and sporting dogs.

Labrador Retrievers, are kind, affectionate, devoted, obedient and very intelligent. they are always eager to please and love being near the family and owners. They become fond of other pets in the home and love children. Labradors are very well known for their love and loyalty to their owners. They make wonderful guard dogs, but are rarely aggressive to people and other animals. When you first approach a Labrador Retriever you might think they appear aggressive, but they will more likely lick you to death than bite you.

Labrador Retrievers are easily trained which makes the process of training fun rather than like work. Labradors love the outdoors and require a great deal of exercise. Without the exercise and play time they tend to be more destructive in order to release the energy they might have. Because Labrador Retrievers need exercise room to run they do best on a farm or in a fenced yard area. however, they do well for house dogs, when they are allowed outdoor time.

On the average Labrador Retrievers are very healthy dogs with very few weaknesses in the anatomy. They can live as long as 12 -14 years with few health problem.

Labrador Retrievers are very versatile dogs. They can be trained to do all sorts of useful tasks from retrieving the newspaper to getting your shoes. They have been trained for drug dogs and police dogs and even to guiding the blind.

Labrador Retrievers require much love and attention, but they are well worth the affection and time spent because in return you get a companion that will enrich you life for many years. back to index  

Damascus Way Labradors is owned and operated by Leon and Vickie Newsome, of Thomson, Georgia.  Located on a 60 acre farm in rural Georgia, we are 30 minutes west of Augusta, Georgia and 2 hours east of Atlanta, Georgia.

Our goal is to produce beautiful, sound, healthy Labrador Retrievers with such wonderful temperaments that they become a part of your family, blending well with children and other adults.

We have been breeding AKC Labrador Retrievers exclusively for 25 years, and are very proud of our dogs because we have approximately 30 years breeding experience  into almost every one of our dogs. We raise Yellow Labrador Retrievers, White Labrador Retrievers, Chocolate Labrador Retrievers, Fox Red and Black Labrador Retrievers. We breed for size, temperament and intellect as well as producing a healthy pet or hunting companion.

Leon and I along with our grandson spend countless hours at the Labrador kennels where our facilities include an indoor whelping kennel strictly for our moms with lab puppies. Approximately 1300 square feet of climate controlled space so that our babies stay at just the right temperature until they are weaned from their moms. Then they are placed in an outdoor area exclusively for weaned puppies. Our adult facility is open air under 2000 square feet of roof. Our kennels are chain linked with concrete flooring, under roof.

I spend much time with our Labrador Retriever puppies from birth as I feel that socializing is the one most important aspects of raising a great Labrador puppy.  I am with them when they are born and by the time they go to there new home, they think I am their mom.  Our grandson also helps with the socializing of each pup.  He gets inside each whelping area with the moms and the pups from a very early age.  This allows the puppies to become aware of the human aspect as well as children at a very early age. When the puppies are old enough he takes them outside to run after him.  

 It has been a real joy for me to see my Labrador Retriever puppies go home with people I know will love and adore them as I do.       back to index

all of our labrador retriever puppies are akc registered and have their first shots and are wormed at least 3 times before going home between 6-8 weeks of age.
they are already on dry food by the time they go to their new home.
we take deposits for future litters to be born throughout the year.
we also accept credit card payments.

we start socializing your labrador puppy from the minute they are born. i handle every lab puppy and help mother during the birth process. weighing each lab puppy for birth weight etc. from that point, on a daily basis i go in and sit with each labrador litter loving, cuddling, and talking to each pup. by the time they are weaned they know my voice and think of me as mom.

socializing of your new labrador retriever puppy is the very most important part of his/her intellect, training and knowledge. a labrador retriever wants to please but without their interaction with it's new owners on a daily basis there is no way they will know what you expect of them and they of you.

it is a good idea to set up a daily routine with your labrador puppy.. times for potty, times to eat, times to play, times to sleep, and especially times to just hang out. let your new labrador puppy do things with you and talk with them as if they already know what you mean. eventually they will learn what you mean. give the labrador retriever puppy their own place. the lab pup will know when you put them in their place that they need to stay there without coming out. they will learn this very quick if you reinforce properly.

most of all take time....time....time... with your new labrador puppy. enjoy the puppy stage because it will be gone very quickly.

if you choose to make a labrador retriever you family companion. you will have a loyal and loving companion for many years. 

we have shipped our labrador retriever puppies all over the united states and internationally. we usually ship delta dash within the us because this enables the puppies to reach their destination point within 4 hours. this means your puppy will not sit at an airport for a lengthy period of time in the heat or cold.

the puppy cannot be shipped before 8 weeks of age and is required to have a health certificate ($25 fee) and a shipping crate ($50 fee).

however, you may come to our facility and pick up your new lab puppy at your convenience. we love to show off the moms and dads of our babies.
